case in point: my friend was new in town and got lost while riding the buses. he walked into a papa john's to ask for directions; they all ignored him. he tried to wave down cars and nobody would stop. finally someone did and he said, "could you help me? i'm lost." they said, "so?" and drove off laughing. so, tell me, why are people so friggin nice?
it's a small southern town, and i'm not making this up

I'm guessing that your being sarcastic with your question? In small towns I think one of two things happen, either people will do everything to be helpful, or don't give a d@#* attitude. Unfortunately people forget the golden rule fairly often today. You can try and introduce your friend to some of the truly nice people in town. Maybe throw a party or dinner so he can meet everyone and know that not every single person in town is a you know what. You can only hope that some day these same people travel to a far away place and pull that attitude on someone maybe not so kind hearted. Perhaps they'll get the big picture then. By the way I'm from a small town too.

because it's become a 'me' society.... look at yahoo answers, for example.... you get points for answering, even if you tell the person they are worthless, etc......... So people answer.... it's becaome a mentality of 'what are you going to do for me?' We have become so selfish in today's world, and nobody cares, because they care about themselves.... your friend wanted to take time away from the Papa Johns people, while they were working, and then had nothing to offer to the person who DID stop, so why would they help him? Sad that things have gotten this way.....

We try to be more courteous in Britain, but it seems as if this is the way that people are nowdays. Shame isn't it.

Last night I stopped my car to help an old man who had fallen over I was blocking traffic but nobody else came to help.

coz at one point or another someone not nice had misused the niceness of ppl and tricked them or hurt them....and in tis day and age..in big cities time is money..and spending tat extra minute or so may mess up their pre-planned schedule...but still tats no excuse for being rude or laughin at someone...U are from a small town in the south..u r not affected by the rat race tat goes on in the big cities...so the culture or respect thy nieghbour and do unto others wat u want others to unto u is still preserved...dun worry there is always karma...u n ur fren jus be ur nice self..dun change..(jus dun be gullible or naive...sometimes con artists/crooks/not nice ppl will misuse ur niceness)..wat goes ard comes ard...and also tell ur fren..he who laughs last laughs the best...:)

well, some people can be complete jerks. not everyone is. it seems as if the percentage of nice people in the world is shrinking. its horrible. but sometimes, those types of things can happen. don't get upset at ALL people though, becasue there are those who are nice out there. you just have to keep looking. ~

I don't understand people these days. Whatever happened to helping each other. I think also that people have an unnatural fear of other people these days and just steer clear of any one that they don't know. Then there are people who are just cruel! But I always say, "what goes around........"

Its unfortunate and alot of people are like that. But sometimes you meet people who will go out of their way to help you and it gives you some hope.

Maybe it was a distrust of strangers mentality. Doesn't mean people are like that all over

People so nice??? Really? Say, what planet are you from, 'cause I'd just love to move there!!! Also, your statement makes no sense whatsoever...unless you're being sarcastic, They're "nice" because that's how people are; every man for yourself is the motto of the twenty-first century.
