Is it "true" merely because he says so?

It IS hard to pin down lies or truths in this war.
As far as I've learned from the information provided online there is civil war on the ground in Iraq but not on a grand scale. It's actually hard to give a name to the chaos that's happening there.
But I think that much of the action that Iraqis are involved in and concerned with is resistance against foreign troops.
Any civil war going on is scattered haphazardly in different places and is similar to stupid tribal warfare (pointless revenge and struggle for power and turf). There are also those Iraqis who, despite the hellish nightmare that's going on around them, are preoccupied with exacting revenge on Saddam's Baathists who had terrorized them for so long..
It even occurs between members of the same factions (e.g. shiite against shiite) contrary to what many people believe (that it's always sunni against shiite against kurd)
But also according to the things I've read we must remember that although tirbal behavior has been present and inherent in that nation for centuries, the instigator was an outsider. The spark to the flame had to come from somewhere and it was most likely Israeli Mossad agents. I wouldn't be surprised if that were true. There are even some Iraqis who claim they are well aware of the "divide and conquer" work that Isreali agents are doing. Of course those who are aware are very few and the larger Iraqi public is so gripped by its own misery and trouble that it can readily believe whatever the media (western and local) will give to it.
Not to mention the farce that was called the new Iraqi Constitution. I bet most Iraqi civillians didn't even know what they were voting for.. except that their religious leader issued an order and they were to vote on whatever he chose.

Correction: the civil war was declared official in late 2005

This is the beginning of a violent civil war in Iraq unless the US doesn't act straight away. I think the only way of decreasing the numbers of innocent people killed in the war is to devide it into three countries. One for sunni, one for shiite, one for kurds.
If they stay living in the same country, they will continue to kill each other till death. They do not have common goals. they cant unite.
may peace prevail.

well, gotta say no civil war now, probably in the near future, but really hope not. all i want is peace, good and happiness to prevail around the world...

If it's not a civil war, it's very close to being one. My heart aches for the Iraqi citizens stuck in the middle of this mess. The ongoing conflicts inside Iraq are reason enough for the US to stay put. We cannot and MUST NOT leave until the Iraqi government can take over and ensure the safety of Iraqi citizens. I pray for our troops all the time. God bless!

It's true at the moment, but there is probably one coming. Right now terrorists that the media calls insurgents are causing trouble for everyone, but it's not an all out civil war yet.

Washington DC is more dangerous than Iraq. I'd hardly call that civil war footing.

I'm actually far more concerned with mexico than Iraq at this point. It's looking more and more like there might be an overthrow of the government down there by communist scum.

It's a lie. There's about 3 fronts right now; our troops are in the crossfire. More Iraqi deaths increasingly.

Again, the media involved in "weapons of mass distraction".

That assumes civility over there, which has yet to be seen. Most is plotted by Iran and falsely called "insurgents" by a confused foreign media.

Total lie, supported by Military spin doctors who, of course, answer to GW Bush.

It's been going on for a while. The question is, how much worse will it get? And will us leaving make things better or worse?
