Cultural norms are different around the world. In some countries, cats and dogs are no more that needed sources of protein. Populations that lack the overabundance of food present in the Western world eat monkees, beetles, grubs, ants, and other things I would not think of eating, as well as cats and dogs, as a mere matter of survival. Some Indian cultures consider cows sacred animals, and these people are horrified at the thought of killing and butchering a cow for food.

It all depends upon where you grow up.

Those same people probably think were sick for eating cows, pigs and sheep, I could never imagine eating a dog or cat but I eat pork and chicken so I guess I am as bad as those people too.

I don't think it is sick when its done in countries that don't keep them as pets.
Most people in this country wouldn't think much about eating pigs, cows, sheep or chickens. We keep cats and dogs as pets, so it seems cruel, but if they were raised for food like farm animals, I doubt you would have such a strong opinion.

different cultures, gosh people do a lot of things. The other day i watched a programme on people who ate little octopus-like creatures...ALIVE!!!! Others were said to eat maggots, others eat birds that haven't finished development, as in when they are still in the shell and at least some cook the poor things, others eat them raw, and other things we regard sick, but hey, to them they think it's normal you know, might as well accept it.

People eat cats and dogs? Hmm...maybe they're facing starvation or maybe it has something to do with their culture. Good thing it's not at all common.

Something even grosser is eating monkeys. How can people eat such cute creatures? *sigh*...

an animal is an animal whether its a cow, cat, dog, guinea pig, goat or deer. it is the 'norm' in this culture to eat pigs, cows, sheep etc and it is equally the 'norm' in other countries/cultures to eat other species. you cannot condemn people for eating these animals if you yourself eat meat. GO VEGGIE!

Many people think that eating a cow or a pig is outrageous, but cows, pigs, sheep, cats, dogs, horses, snakes, or rats- it's all just meat...

nothing sick about it, it's sick if you find out it was cat and you've been told it's chicken, but if you know it's cat or rat go ahead enjoy your meal it's better than starving
