either ur d drive needed to b cleaned or u need to reinstall the drive.

The most likely cause is that you have a dead CD drive. It happens. Do you smoke? I've had to replace alot of CD drives for smokers being the smoke destroys your drives ability to read CDs. It also ruins everything else inside your computer.
Another possibility is that you have a bad IDE cable. Try replacing it. Otherwise, CD drives are cheap, so it's not a big deal.

try this
right click on my computer
click manage
click device manager
on the right side locate where it says cd/dvd roms
double click that
now your cd rom should show up under that
right click on that
choose uninstall
now at the top of the chain you will see your computer name
right click on that
choose scan for hardware changes
the pc will find and reinstall the cd rom
now try again

Pl get your CD Drive checked. Even if it is not working, pl go ahead and change your CD drive.
CD drive is not very costly now, you change with DVD or combo drive.

i had that happen to me like 8 months or so after i had my pc...and there was just alot of dust, cleaned it and all better(computor places charge like 8$ to clean out ur comp.
