You didn't say what class you needed a calculator for, but I would suggest if it has ANYTHING TO DO with calculus, I would DEFINITELY opt for the Ti-89 Titanium. It is superior for cal classes. If you are going with algebra...then the Ti-84 Silver is pretty good and a much cheaper alternative. Consider how far you are going with your math classes, and if you will be taking cal, go with the 89! I love mine and I am taking graduate math courses.

Well, it's great if you can buy the TI-89, but it's hard to learn how to use. I know that my calculus class was taught with the TI-83 Plus,so you might be better off buying the TI-84, which is similar to TI-83, if your teacher will use TI-83. And the TI-83 got me through calculus without any problems.

A lot of my peers purchased TI-89 for calculus but couldn't figure out how to use it well, so they just ended up wasting time on their exams messing with the calculator and money buying the calculator.

If you are taking algebra, go for the TI-84, definitely. And it would be sufficient (and I would recommend it) for calculus.

If you are majoring in math, you will eventually need the TI-89, however.

They both work the same except one has more memory. I bought the cheapest of the two at Best Buy and it has worked really well for me.
