NO!!!!!!! african americans alive today were not slaves and the white people alive today did own any slaves i think that would be ridiculous!

no does england owe you money for the past, or the chruch owe you for your religion,or if you take a good look at history you will find that alot of races have had a bad past, not just the africans
does germany owe the jews,the slave trade started with the african people selling there own tribe members to the slave traders,people need to quit living in the past a look to the future, an quit using the past as a excuse for there lives,its up to you not what happened 150 years ago

I am African American Woman don't give me anything but opportunity to succeeds in life nothing was given to my ancestors and they went through it Besides you are only held accountable for your actions no one Else's so why pay reparations.

america would never have experienced the kind of rapid economic growth she did, if it hadn't been for the forced free labor she took off black slaves (along with literally taking the skin off their backs).
unless we are people who refuse to pay their debts, then this one is our foundation debt...right after the one we owe for having reneged on every single treaty we made with american indians - but that's another question.
so yes, i am in favor of making reparations, because it is true to justice.
however, i don't think tracking down individual descendents of slaves is even possible, since many records are lost, or were never kept.
the way to do it in my opinion is to aim the money into community infrastructures where the results will benefit black americans who have been the most cheated of equal opportunities for quality housing, healthcare, daycare, transportation, education, etc.
and let the organizations blacks themselves feel they can trust, decide the details.
this country's economy is being trashed by bushco criminals, so the progress we can make might have to be slower than we'd wish, but now is always a fine time to start.

OMG!!!! I am so tired of this.... We all need to get pass what our ancestors did.. I am not guilty of nothing it was not me. I dont think we owe them anything. Lets talk aboutthe indians and what our ancestors did to them and then we will see who we should pay our sorries to. GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!

no, look at who started putting the black people into slavery in the first place. also white people were slaves also. read history.
