the concept of ebonics was nothing more than an official recognition of the way many urban people truly speak. explain to your friend that ebonics is not wrong all the time, only that it isn't in one's best interest to speak it in some situations. ebonics is appropriate among friends or family (depending), but not in "official" situations such as school, work, or anywhere you want to seem to be a fine upstanding man (or woman) . most people that speak ebonics also have the ability to speak proper english. you only need explain the appropriate use of each to your friend

Explain how the world looks at the importance of intelligence, and the power of vocabulary. If your friend cares at all about being viewed as stupid, give him the heads-up on social interaction and showing he has a brain in his head. The slang is ok in certain areas for fun with in da hood, but it doesn't belong everywhere. It can become a barrier at work, school or with other people who DON'T communicate that way. It's all about social skills. Yes it's a game but you can master it if you understand why and how it is played. Otherwise, he will be "playing" himself!! Just trying to help - not offend anyone.

Say things like "yo, Dog! S'up" to them while doing matching hand gestures and body movements. Keep doing this as your greeting to that friend every time you see him/her until the friend screams at you, "Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! That's so incredibly STUPID!" At that point, you can feel free to tell your friend, "What do you think I've been wanting to tell YOU all along?"
