If you Self-publish, then YOU will make all of the money, instead of a publisher. But you also take the risk... When publishers sign up an author, they expect MORE than a one book deal. So if this is ALL YOU GOT, then self-publishing is YOUR BAG.
I highly recommend that you LEARN everything. Writing, Editing, Proof-reading, Book layout design, Cover design, Publishing, Distribution, Marketing. All of these can be done through http://www.booksjustbooks.com These people are very helpful, and can steer you to the services that you can't do yourself.
Here are some tips:
- Edit or HIRE an editor
- Proof-read and get a proofreader... Aim to be PURFECT.
- Get a nice cover design. The cover design is what SELLS the book.
- PRICE: If you intend to make any money, ADD a great deal of money to the price above the costs. Make out a plan and budget, AIM to multiply the costs by 4 to set the price. You see, if a book costs $2 to print, $2 for editing and preparation, you MUST get at least $16 to cover marketing costs. Also, keep in mind that Booksellers want to buy it from you at 40 percent off or MORE. There has to be something left for the Author/Publisher
- be creative
Be prepared and ready to SELL the book. It will not sell by itself, YOU have to do it.

The publishing world is a very difficult one to get into (if you are speaking of legitimate publishers and not vanity presses and POD, i.e., self-publish). There is no legitimate publisher that would take these notes (are you kidding) and publish them, as there isn't really a market for that kind of thing out there. If you were already a well known writer you might have a better chance, but honestly, no publisher would want this (unless you just want to see them in print and go to some little cheesy on line publisher that will satisfy your ego and vanity). Hundreds of thousands of manuscripts come flooding into publishers each year and most are returned, never even read. You need to study market trends and see what's hot (notes from wives are NOT and probably never will be), And even doing that and then writing a book (first check with a publisher via a query letter to see if they might be interested, then be prepared to wait months and months for a reply - if you EVER get one), then start the preliminaries of your book. You can go the agent route but they are just as difficult to secure as is a publisher. The world of publishing is NOT for the faint of heart (and again, I am talking LEGITIMATE) publishing. In addition YOU would have to edit all the work, etc. And really, why would you turn your wife's notes to you into a book? These are personal and you would need the permission of your wife. Little notes are rarely the stuff of literature. Many children come to this site and say things like, I want to be a writer where do I send my first novel? Or, I have just sent in a little book of poems and in six months I will be telling you guys it's published! When you give them advice and tell them that isn't how the field of publishing works, they become very angry. I notice not too many want to begin their careers at the school newspaper, either.

Personally, I'm not very big on the whole self--publishing thing. You don't get the readership you would if you get your book published with a publishing house (it most likely will not get out in the public eye) and then you have the issue of circulating copies of your book and being really good with PR on your own. If you're willing to make a commitment, kudos to you- try it and see how you like it.
Otherwise, go look for a literary agent and talk to them about your idea. Give them a sample to send out to publishing houses.

What TYPE of notes exactly?
Yeah, sure, go ahead. My publisher made me cost for Black/White Interior $500 and Color Interior $999. 1.5 cents per word.
But that's MY publisher at AuthorHouse. Haven't published quite yet.
If publishers don't like the idea, self-publishing might be good.

Wouldn't it mean more to you to have the actual letter? I mean to have it typed out would make it a little less personal, ya know? They are letters to you, personal and sentimental. I think you should just scrapbook them really nicely. That's just my opinion. I've been writing letters and poems and stuff to my husband now for almost 4 years too and even though I know they are really good I don't think anyone else would want to read them and I really wouldn't want them to. They're my deep emotions spilled out on paper. It's personal. Did you ask your wife if what you are wanting to do would be okay with her?

First, I am assuming you have consulted your wife on this, and she's all for it. Honey, PLEASE do not do this as a "surprise" for her. SHE. WILL. KILL. YOU.
I agree with others that - WITH YOUR WIFE'S PERMISSION - this sounds like an excellent self-publishing venture. Without her permission, you will next be communicating with your wife through attorneys.

You are going to have to get a publisher involved. Write to a few, provide them with your idea and some copies of the notes and see what they say. Good luck.

I'm not sure where you can have that done, but that's a very sweet idea and a great way to show her your love as she has done for you. Rock on!
