Mind is a machine, and its working depends on the fuel or the energy flowing into it, if it is agitated it will behave erratically and if the fuel is calm and peaceful it will behave so. So take charge of the energy that you allow to come into your life and your mind. Avoid things that over stimulate the mind that it goes berserk, avoid like too much of TV or noisy music or over indulgence in thoughts through over analysis of the past or extensive day dreaming, too much of strong tea or coffee, salty or fizzy beverages or too many sweets; regulate their usage.

A glass of warm milk has soothing and calming effect on the mind. That is why; mothers all over the world give their children milk and a cookie or a light non-salty snack, right before their studies.

Another way to calm yourself is to address your fear issues, see if you can learn some calming or meditative techniques or Tai chi, sometimes even stroll calms the mind as it dissipates all the nervous and stress energy from your system, never start studying with an agitated or disturbed mind first drain that energy out, calm yourself and them start studying. A calm mind stays focused and retains even better.

Practice your calming routine them right before you begin to study, play calming music for while, even a short prayer will help in calming your raw nerves, if you are feeling raw or distracted, simply become aware of your breath, with your eyes closed. Within in a few minutes you will be calm again.

See, the things u r thinking about is the sole important issue in ur life. And don't u think there can't be anything more important thing on earth than to decide what u want to be ?
Now, just tell me, aren't u studying & giving exams for the same reason ? u R but u forgot the actual purpose of studying & giving exams, they r only the introductory part of ur being into a person u want to be.
Either study for that or just don't study at all.

When you study, try reading out loud to yourself. I did it when I was going to school. It helps me stay focused and awake. I hate studying. I'd prefer pop or quizz test after the lecture. I did really good. Do not study all at once. Try it in several installments. Take mini breaks often. Take notes when you're studying to have emphasis on salient points. Concentrate more on difficult matters. Also do mini reviews.. I also eat peanuts, considered food fot the brain. I ate a lot of these while studying. Maybe it was just a fable because i'm already smart. But it won't hurt to try.right.

This is what I have to do:
Go get some exercise. Come home, cool down, shower, whatever. Turn off anything that makes a noise. Make some tea and take some flax seed oil supplements. And then hit the books.

Studies have shown that flax oil and/or exercise works as effectively for ADD as ritalin and other stimulants, a fact that I can confirm.

A possible solution is to ask yourself.... honestly, and without fear, what is gained by day-dreaming when you should be studying?

I suspect you will find that what you would rather be doing is not what you are doing, and this suggests that what you are doing does not have the help of your desire behind it. So, what is it that you really want to do? If it is important enough to sabotage your studying, perhaps it is worth pursuing for awhile?

Just a thought.

Could be Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. Could be that you need to resolve what your mind is wondering to. Are you thinking about the same thing when your mind wanders? Money, Love, Work. See your doctor and ask for help from professional. You may just need some vitamins.

you are in a comfort zone. You assume that since you are smart, which i am sure you are, you will manage it well enough later, the trouble is "later" never comes only bad performances do. You will get marks proportional to your hardwork. so if you don't study be prepared for compromising future.the solution HARDWORK and nothing else ,intelligence is secondary!! just ctart working. your will has to be like a wall. and remember winners make sacrifices

u get indulged in day dreaming....this is normal...even i get involved in it a lot of times.it gives pleasure and satisfaction coz we imagine what we desire for in life...
its absolutely normal to fantasize urself to be someone else.....but if its distracting ur attention away from studies then u must try a hand on meditation....it brings calmness in ur mind and u feel relaxed.....try meditation when ever u feel like ur attention is diverted....just close ur eyes and breathe deeply for 5 minutes....it helps a lot....
