Well if you're afriad when you are trying to insert the tampon it is going to make things a little more difficult for you. It also depends on what position you are in. Sitting on the toilet it usually easier than standing. Also, you might try one with a plastic covering, like the Pearl tampons as they are easier than the paper ones. Also, use the thinnest ones, typically the ones for the lightest flow. Tampons are much cleaner than pads, but sometimes people have difficulty with them in the beginning. You'll figure it out I'm sure. Just don't be afriad!

That sounds normal. Tampons can be kindda rough, especially if you get the ultra-absorbant. (Or so I've heard, I've never used them myself... Toxic Shock Syndrome is enough to scare me off!) I've heard horror stories from friends about not being able to get 'em out. So, yes, I think your fear is normal. Most places have both pads and tampons in the bathroom, but if for some reason you're out and don't have any pads with you, you could try to roll up some toilet paper and place it in between your labia. I know that sounds gross, but make sure it's clean off the roll and use it until you can get a pad. The best thing to do is have a spare pad "in case of emergency." (Periods can be kindda hectic and abnormal when you're just starting your cycle, I think... mine have always been regular, but I'm around 35 days while most women are around 28...)
Don't be embarrassed if a wrapped, unused pad falls out of your purse or backpack. So many girls at my highschool and even some in college blush. Females generally have periods. It's a fact of life.

Some women are made differently than others. Not everyone can use tampons comfortably, and if you can't then it's nothing to be ashamed of. I remember thinking that I wasn't as "cool" as the other girls because I always used pads, but I couldn't stand tampons. I'm 37 and never could use them.

yes that is normal, you don't have to use them if u don't feel comfortable with them, i am 14 two and i just started useing them in the summer time, not that long ago, just use what you feel best in. I was scared of tampons two, but when i was supposed to do something with my friend that day that invovled water, i said " im going to try again'', and i did it the thing was i got the wrong kind if u wana try again you could use the pearl ones, those are the good ones not to big, maybe you just didn't use the right kind like me on my first try. But also maybe you didn't really no how to use one, i thought i knew how to use one but i really didn't when i asks someone how to do it.
i hope you figure everything out
and good luck

Believe me it is very normal. I couldn't get use to using tampons until my later 20's. Until you are comfortable just use pads, you don't have to tell anybody! It doesn't matter anyhow except that I finally began using them when I really wanted to go swimming when I had my period. Then I finally learned. They hurt me also but when you are comfortable with them and ready it will slide right in like nothing. Trust me. I hope this helps you.

LISTEN TO ME!
okay do i have your attention?
I am 24 and i dont use tampons either, i have in the past
but ive learned alot about how bad tampons are for you.
Pads are the better choice and these are some good
ones to use and are WAAAY more comfortable than
reg pads. http://www.lunapads.com/default.aspx?Lang=EN-US&PriceCat=2&RefID=
TAMPONS: Tampons absorb the dead waste your body
is trying to excrete. Tampons breed bacteria and can
cause something called Bacterial Vaginitis. If bad enough
you can actually get TSS from it. But trust me, Vaginitis
is worse enough by itself.

Don't worry! it's perfectly normal to feel that way! In fact, i use pads because of a bad experience with tampons... Anyway, just get a good, absorbant pad and you'll be fine! Trust me!

You will get used to it quickly. If it is in properly, you will not feel it. Read the directions carefully, start with a junior size. Don't try to pull it out too soon after you put it in, it will come out easily when it gets saturated. It only has so far to go and will never get lost up there. Don't be afraid of them, they are fantastic.

it's normal, But there is going to be times where if you don't wear a tampon you are going to miss out on things,
For example,
Swimming!!!
You can buy lube to put on your tampon to insert it easier,
You could also try using tampons with silk coverings.. there are lots of different tampons you could try, maybe you should even try using slim ones, Its a pain for a while, but its a fact of life.
