May of 2007 is when me and my fiancee plan to get married and we are wanting a baby soon afterward but in March of 2005 I had a serious car accident (teacher hit me head on) and I had to have my spleen removed because it had erruptured. I have a scar on my stomach because of that surgery which stretches from about the middle of me stomach to about two inches past the belly button. My parents are scared that I won't be able to experience pregnancy because of this. However, my father said that someone he worked with had this done and had a baby just fine...but Im afraid that he is trying to make me feel better. So does anyone know if its still possible, or have you went through this same situation? If you have went through it, tell me about how your pregnancy went. Thanks so much.

Hopefully a mommy to be in the future!

Hey guys! I know that the spleen isn't a reproductive organ, I was trying to lean more to the scare and if it stretches because of the increase of belly size, if it would prevent me later in my pregnancy like in the sixth-ninth month because of the scar. Im sorry if I didn't say something about the scar causing my bad thoughts :o)

You should have no trouble carrying to term. If there were to be some repercussions from the scar, the doctors would have told you immediately after the accident. Many women have had Cesarean sections, which will occasionally leave nasty belly scars, and they have no problems with future pregnancies, as long as they allow their scars sufficient time to heal. The only real issue for having trouble carrying with them would be scarring on the inside of the uterus which you don't have to worry about. You should go to the GYN anyway if you are considering becoming pregnant just for a general health checkup, and pap smear. When you go, just ask the doc about your fears concerning the scar, they are paid to help with questions like this, so don't be embarrassed, just ask! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask!!!

Your spleen has nothing to do with having a baby...it filters your platelets....I've gotten to know a lot about the spleen because my husband has an illness in which his spleen is over working itself causing him to have low platelet counts and he may need his spleen removed. You can get sick easier because your spleen helps your immune system...but it shouldn't effect pregnancy. And when I say sick I don't mean morning sickness..I mean like colds and stuff...make sure to get a flu vaccine to avoid the risk! The scar is ok to stretch...look at how many people get there appendix out and still have children...they have a scar from that as well!!

The spleen is not a reproductive organ and therefore its removal should not affect your abiilty to conceive. As long as the surgeon or the accident didnt damage your reproductive organs, the scar should be irrelevant and you should be able to conceive and carry a baby to term. Good Luck!!!

I think that you will probably be just fine. I'm sure the longer you wait the longer everything has to heal. I would talk to my doctor, about what I should look for if there were complication. I would try to be fit before pregnancy and stay fit during my pregnancy. Try not to gain too much weight. I'm sure you will be fine. Good Luck with the wedding and baby!!!!

milwifemom and red_roses_1 (above) are right. You need to have a good checkup and talk to your doctor. I think you're almost certain to come out OK, if you had no complications with your spleen surgery - but it never hurts to keep your fingers crossed! Good luck!

Mom's tend to think the worse of a situation. Why not ask your doctor? I don't think the spleen is one of your reproductive organs...

None of us on here or a Doctor. They would have to do a HSG to see if there is any blockage on your tubs and uterus. IT doesn't feel good, I will tell you that much.
