Because too many people in the U.S. still do not believe in equal rights or consideration for women, no matter how educated, intelligent and efficient that woman might be. You do realize, I guess, that women were not even allowed to vote until the 1920's.

That's a good question and I can't honestly answer you except that society has been male dominated. I'm hoping that changes in the near future, I'd personally like to have a woman President.

I suppose American society is male dominated; women weren't even allowed to vote for generations. But there is possibly an opportunity for a female to be elected in the next 20 years.

Look how many female heads of state (not including queens regnant) there have been in the world during the 20th century.
Argentina had Isabelle Peron, the Philippines had Corazon Aquino (and presently has Gloria Arroyo), Nicaragua had Violetta Chamorro, Iceland had Vigdis Finnbogadottir, Ireland had Mary Robinson (and presently has Mary McAleese).
What makes you guys think a lady could not do the job of US President as well as a man?

George W is a man! Gosh!
No but OK, the tide is likely to turn eventually.
Maybe the male dominated US political system could be right for a change & Mrs Clinton is the person to do it.
Would Bill make a good first Lady (errrr Man)?

Because most Americans are sexist. Even most of their women don't have enough self-respect to be able to consider a woman as a good choice for president. The same is true for race. Remeber when Jesse Jackson was trying to get nominated? He was by far the best candidate, but didn't have a snowball's chance in an active volcano.

Actually, I am hoping to see the day that a woman becomes president. I am sure that the political males in our society will have their egos so hurt that they will do everything to bring her down.
When the right time comes, I am sure that we will have a woman president. She will probably do a much better job for this country because their love comes from the heart, not from the groin.

Womens lack of emotional control is the reason there has never been a candidate fit for the job. But there will be, and probably not that long into the future. Maggie Thatcher was deemed fit, and though she did a lot of damage to society she did a lot of good to, which shows women are capable. A woman is a much better organiser or staff member than a man, but men have the ability to think beyond logic which is why the top jobs always get taken by men.

because not enough red states would vote. it's not because the democrats or republicans are institutionally sexist, it's just common sense
if hillary runs it will be a complete disaster. no red states will vote for her. the democrats are taking a far more conservative line, but it still won't help in predominantly republican states. john mccain (the man who will probably be representing the republicans) could easily sway a lot of democratic voters. he's a good man, a much better, more intelligent man than george bush who puts the american people's needs first. a TRUE patriot

My answer to your question would be that there is misgiving about a woman being President, because men in general think that a woman could not handle the enormity of making decisions of our country, when in fact woman can do a better job of making decisions better than a man.
