yes, I have gained thousands on ebay - But you have to beware of people who purchase...One guy kept telling us to ship the package here, no there, no over here, no there.... We didn't get payment for 2 months....So, make sure you give people a deadline for when payment is recieved by. give them like 5 days or something close to it...(put that info in payment instructions they will see it before they buy) Sometimes people bid on ebay and they don't have the money for their purchase so they will screw around with you until they get the money. So, tell them if money is not recieved in 5 days, you will give the item to the second bidder in a secound chance offer/ or you could relist the item..
If they offer to pay by money order - we only took US post office money orders because you just don't know about money orders from little convience stores... You can make money. But also, in the begining we lost money because we didn't figure postage and shipping correctly - that is by and far where you will lose the most amount of money if you don't figure in the price of the box, shipping, packing materials and tape. Get confirmation numbers or put insurance on expensive items when shipping....so they can't come back and say you didn't ship the item to them.
Paypal is safe, but they have fees and %s of money they take from you for credit card users. If you can get money shipped by Western Union - you don't lose any money in the fees and Western Unions are everywhere! Almost every grocery store has one - and many other businesses. Western Unions are world wide and they translate money to your currency.
Good luck

yes, but:
you need to spend quite a lot of time taking decent photos and writing an accurate, persuasive description of your items. Items must not be heavy or the postage will add too much to the price the buyer has to pay.
because so many people are buying and selling on eBay you will only get a fair price for items. With so many items for sale it is unlikely that a buyer will bid too high. Because of this you need to be selling your own collection of things bought over the years of items you have managed to buy at a very low price.
It is vital to get your postage costs accurate, otherwise you end up paying more than you have estimated and reducing your profit (don't I know it!). Packing and taking to the post office, queuing for recorded delivery all takes time.
eBay Listing and especially Paypal do cost money so budget for them.
In most cases a realistic starting price is better than setting a reserve, because bidders get fed up with the message "reserve not reached"
good luck

Many people make money on ebay. Look at the item you are thinking of selling and see if you can find it already on ebay in completed sales. That will give you an idea of what it may be worth. If you are new to ebay, consider buying things first to get up your feedback rating before selling.
If the item is not worth too much, you might consider www.craigslist.org since those listings are free.

OMG, i am a seller on ebay, and i made of 1,500 dollars this summer of vintage barbies and stuff! You will make money but only sell stuff that is worth you time because it cost money to list yur item and put pics of it and it cost money when it sells and if you use paypal it cost money. I sold a $500 dollar lot of barbies and ebay and paypal took out $40! But it is a fun way to use your time and sell some crap! I suggest doing it if you have the time, because if you don't have good pics, then people don't like it.

Of course it is, if you have something 'in demand' to sell. Being original in what you sell makes the difference in the competition, not just following the crowd and selling the same 'wholesale' items everyone else finds from the same sources.

If it weren't possible making money at Ebay, why would millions and millions of people sell there?

By theory, yes.
If you don't know what you're doing, no.
You can easily spend $10 to post an ad for something worth $5.
Like I said, if you know what you're doing, you'll get some cash. It also depends on WHAT you are going to sell, the price range, interest, and quality.
