Fuel cells, like little lawnmower engines, a litterally microscopic combustion engine, running of liquid fuel, and producing water vapour (in tiny amounts) as the only exhaust. They are set to rplace batteries, and will be much longer lasting, refuelled almost instantly, and if bigger, much more powerful. Think of the impact, not electronics, or phone technology, but Battery technology has had on the modern ultra small mobile phone. The power scourse is the only reason they were bricks.
As part of this micro engine building, advances will also be made in nano bot technology, (to make them) impacting heavily in medical advances.
Also, in geography, the realisation that the moon was once part of the earth, already suggested, but with historical "myth" saying there were ten planets, this will be re looked at, and realised that two planets were slammed together, in thier early development, causing a chain reaction in the stronger, to become the earth and the weaker, to recceed to lifeless rock. this collision, will be shown to be what "created" the earth, and life on it, a mini "big bang"
Also, Duck is half price at sainsburys at the moment, but this is not as significant as the above, and not the next biggest thing, as not everyone likes duck.
