Having kids myself (13 + 8) I have often wondered whether they've been afflicted with any number of mental disorders.
It is evident that we (as parents) are less strict nowadays and I believe that we teach our children how to behave.
Of course there are going to be examples of extremes - but on the whole, I believe, more often than not, it's nurture not nature.

Yes, it absolutely exists. The condition absolutely causes problems - they don't always necessarily have to be 'major' problems. My son is 14 and diagnosed ADHD when he was about 7. With education, counseling and quality psychiatric help we have his condition under control and he, most of the time now, behaves like a normal kid and is leading a normal life. Trust me, in his case it has had nothing to do with him needing to be controlled; I'm a pretty in control type of mom who not only has expectations as to how my child should behave, but also expects that he WILL behave that way! (lol!)
I also believe that the diagnosis can be and is "over-used" a lot of times. i.e. the parental types/school officials that would just rather not deal with problem behavior. <--- that attitude is what raises the question as to whether or not the condition truly exists. It's not a problem that you can just throw a pill at! (many times, it seems, this is all some parents want to do!) I did a load of research when my son was diagnosed - education is key.

They're both real. As an adult with suspected ADD (i.e. I haven't been for medical referral, but every piece of research I read on it points to me and my life.)
In my youth there wasn't a word for it, but now awareness is everywhere. However, the diagnosis is often misused and folk think their unruly kids are ADD or ADHD when in fact they just haven't bothered to discipline them properly.
From my point of view, finally realising that all the odd feelings and my own weird behaviour is actually something tangible instead of me just being weird is good. It doesn't help the fact that I can't sit still, have the attention span of a pea (especially when disinterested or bored) and have little concept of normal social boundaries or behaviour. However, I am very creative, so there you go. LOL

Yes,it is a REAL Condition -- a biochemical imbalance in the brain structure that has a strong genetic trend (and it did come through my ex's family line -- his father had the symptoms, my ex has it, and my children inherited it through the ex's sperm donation). YES, it causes real problems -- everything from the school setting to the types of work they can do -- and it is Dangerous in the extreme -- especially if you consider driving, operating heavy equipment, or other things added on to the issues of ADHD/ADD in the school and workplace setting.
Sometimes, it is unruly kids that are not adequately supervised by their parents -- and that is a sad commentary on society nowadays -- but these can be ruled out through a thorough psychiatric and psychological examination and through therapy.

Think it exists in the form of children who can't be controlled because they've had no discipline installed in them.
Think food has a lot to do with it as well cos my daughter is intolerant to aspartame (artificial sweetner) and she's a monster if she has any. She's absolutely uncontrollable and screams shouts and kicks if she has any. With all the rubbish kids eat today it is not surprising that a lot of kids have these problems and their parents just take them to the docs who prescribe something like ritalin without looking at wot may be really causing the chemical imbalance in their brain

it does exist for some children/ adults and not for others. Soem children/ adults have chemical imbalances in their brains which cause them to be extremely hyperactive. ADHD/ADD can also be the cause of food allergies. I had a friend with a child who was diagnosed with ADHD. He was prescribed medicine that didn't help. His mom soon found he was simply allergic to yellow dye (like in mt. dew) When she stop letting him have it his hyperactivity went away. So it could also be a cause of simple food allergies.

Yes it exists. People with ADD are not always "unruly" allot of the time they are just in their own world. People with ADHD can be very well behaved except when it comes to being still and paying attention. My son will explain it by saying I pay attention better while moving. When his teacher believes he is not paying attention he is paying the most attention and if he is setting still he is not hearing a word you are saying.

Of course the labels ADHD and ADD exist, they are used all the time by those who have no idea what they are viewing by way of symptoms.
If, on the other hand, you are referring to the symptom behaviors that these labels refer to, they exist as the physical plane manifestations of "venting" of negative energy generated within the MINDs of children whose MINDs unfortunately hold the mistaken belief that it is they who are responsible for the repressed hate held within the MINDs of one or both parents.
This taking-on of these misperceptions takes place at or near the child's birth. The parents have no idea that their MINDs are repressing hate toward male energy [this phenomenon is more likely in the Liberal Type Personality, by the way, because this person is non-consciously fearful of the intense energy within his/her MIND realm....for a number of reasons, also taken-on at or near their own birth.]
In working with such children, it has been possible to help them discover their misperceptions and to also learn how not to take on the emotional messages of the parent or parents. However, the treatment required to achieve this level of reversal of deeply repressed misperceptions demands that the therapist have ready access to his/her own MIND realm.... and this requires a full and complete program of personal psychotherapy on the part of the therapist. How many in mental health today have undergone such a program?
Probably less than 1%..... and herein lies the reason for the labels and the protestation that "no one knows the cause of the symptoms these labels refer to. This statement is, of course a lie. The truth is, it is fear of the unknown within their own MIND realms, and ignorance of the MIND realm, that causes mental health professionals to delusionally believe no one knows what they, personally, fear to know.
By the way.... I do not "think" this, I know it from my own experiential Knowledge....having experienced it over and over again.

It is a real problem, but with hard work from parents of children with ADHD, the problem can be eased so there can be less disruption in schooling and more understanding from the public and teachers.
