The airbed is a few years old and I wonder if it has been over inflated. What can one do with it if not repairable. How would you recycle it?

Use a cycle inner tube repair kit.

To confirm where the leak is, inflate the airbed and put it in a pool to look for the bubbles. Once you locate the leak, almost any leak can be repaired with a tire repair kit or other inflatable repair kit that you can get at most camping stores.

If it is in fact non-repairable I would not consider recycling it.

Get some Slime from a cycle shop. It's intended to stop air escaping from inner tubes but it will do the same job on your airbed. You put a tube of this inside the bed and pump it up. If there are and holes the slime froths up where the air is escaping and seals the holes from the inside. It might be a bit difficult to spread it around the whole of the inside of the bed (you'll probably have to shake about for a bit before inflating it.) but it will help eliminate air loss.

seams are hard to mend but if you find a hole in a smooth area it can be fixed with a small piece of cloth and fingernail polish. Paint the area around the hole with fingernial polish. Put a small 1 inch by 1 inch piece of cloth over the hole while the polish is still wet. Then paint the cloth itself.

Same as a cycle inner tube. find the leak and patch it with rubber solution and rubber patch. You'll need a swimming pool to find the leak though. lol
