My grandmother thought it was called a ladybird, but i searched pics of a ladybird and got lady bugs. ???

Also, it was definately not a hummingbird. It was more round.

Are you sure it wasn't one of those big fat bumblebees?

Ladybird is the common name for ladybugs in most other English-speaking countries; they are not birds.

Are you CERTAIN it wasn't a hummingbird ? There are a couple of species. It's the only bird that can fly backwards...

How about a BUMBLE BEE ?

More detail on the colour and what it was doing ?

It definitely sounds like a June bug. We had a lot of them around the fruit trees in our back yard. The fruit came in late but it is all gone now and so our the bugs.

sounds like a very big bumble bee, may be the queen

if you are having problems with bees, killing the queen usually helps rid the problem

its a humming bird maybe anothere type but it is the way u described it.... or it is just a FLYING BALL..... that loves ur flowers......
