when the coach says do a "500" or anything else like that.......what does he mean

ok when they say that number because its not just 500 could be another number how many laps do those consist off???

im swimming in a high school pool so you tell me whether its a 25 or 50

That would be 20 laps in the pool my kids use.
Each lap is 25 so 4 would be 100 and 20 would be 500. So it really depends upon how long the pool you are swimming in is- is it 25 or 50? If it were 50 it would be 10 laps.

high school is 25 yards, so a 500 is 500 yards or 20 laps (a lap is 1 length, not back and forth)...
25-1 lap
50-2 laps
75-3 laps
100- 4 laps
150-6 laps
200-8 laps
ect...

perhaps swim 500 laps or metres. just like in army the officer say down 500 means do 500 push-ups.

That is a distance. It means 500 yards (or 500 meters if its a meters pool.)

25-1 lenght-25 m
50-2 lenghts-50 m
100-4 lenghts-100 m
200-8 lenghts-200 m
400-16 lenghts-400 m
800-32 lenghts-800 m
1500-60 lenghts-1500 m
For a 50 METER POOL....you cut the lenghts in half but the meters are the same
that is the main lenghts we swim in swimming
