Everything happens for the reasons of ones own personal actions. Nobody can prove that something is "predestined", or planned out by some higher authority other than the sequence of events responsible for a particular event.
But, when an event is in the past, obviously there was a reason for it, or it wouldn't have happened at all!
I guess all I'm saying is: Do what you need to do and accept any results, even if they suck.

Things happen. But it's too hard to keep all of the different bits sorted out, so people make up narratives so it all fits in with their views of the world and makes sense to them.
Some people find it very comforting to think that all suffering is for a reason. What makes more sense to me, after years of considering this and reading in religion, philosophy and neuroscience, is that we can learn something from any situation or person. That learning is often mistaken for a reason, as if the reason necessarily existed before the learning. It's not that there's an inherent lesson in the situation, but that discomfort can be a stimulus for change -- how often do we make the effort when we're comfortable?
In other words, things happen. What we do with it is up to us as individuals. That is, essentially, my overly-simplified distillation and paraphrase of Albert Camus.

There is a reason why everything happens, but that does not mean everything happens for a reason. This question would be hard to quantify.

well...I don't really know...everything everyone does changes something in the future...like a butterfly flapping it's wings...it probably won't do it,but it might cause a tornado...and yet, anyone could do anything at any time...like right now,I could smash my face into my pc screen... I might, and I might not...I guess I believe that not everything happens for a reason...but only some things do...

Sure. I lost my home because of financial problems. That home was between two sets of railroad tracks. I moved into a new home away from the train tracks, and the painful nerve disorder I had subsided. The noise of the train was causing a lot of the pain.

Anything has some kind of a reason - even the President of the United States.
No, El Nino has not.

Well, if you give it a reason, yes.
By that, I mean, no. I dont think there is an objective reality that is "smarter" than you are. Reality is what it is, its what you make of it that makes it interesting... as in, subjective reality.
So, I think youre asking if objective reality has a plan. I dont think so.
Does subjective reality have a plan? Well, do you know what youre doing with your life?

Yes. I also believe our lives are planned out for us. Everything that happens was intended to be that way, how you choose to deal with it is up to you.
If it doesn't kill you, it can only make you stronger!

Indeed I do.
I was supposed to move to Florida three times, all fell through.. and the last time I was in the process of moving, I met my husband, and decided to stay here. However, we are now moving there, but if I had moved any of the three other times, I wouldn't have ever of met him.

Yes... God has a reason for every moment and every part of every moment we all go through in life... Everything has been carefully planned and He is in control...
