It depends on why you broke up with him . If he hurt you forget it. But if you broke with him on different terms , then just say to him;
I know things didn't work out when we were dating but can we still be friends? If you hurt him , tell him about how you felt about the situation and try to resolve it.
This worked with my boy friend I had off and on from when I was a freshman in high school to when I was a junior . But it might come back and bite you in the butt.
In the begining of July my ex had called me a lot when I was very sick and he said he wanted to hang out at the park . Well when I was better , we hung out and he asked me if we could be " friends with benifits". So I said yes and all he really wanted was sex . I went to his house and we got into it . ;) He was presuring me more and more to actualy have oral sex . When we were "getting into it " he said I wasn't seeming to enjoy it . But I was enjoying it. The disadvantage of this situation is and what you need to know as that , it might not work out. I had changed so much , I am mentally ill , I have bi- polar and since January thing s have been worse for me than ever before. I was doing pretty good my junior year . One of the problems I expirence with bi-polor is decreased desire for sexaul intercourse but also it had been a long time since I had been with a man and I have been questioning my sexaulity . With this , me changing so much and everything was fine and dandy in my life - just the way I wanted it , and then me getting over being sick , I felt he was barging into my life.
Just some things to concider . But use your own judgement.

Now why would you want to do that? That's a ridiculous notion that after you're lovers, you can be friends. It never works and you have nothing to gain out of it unless you have kids together. Let the ex go.
