My daughter is starting Harvard under grad school and I'm driving her up there and I really want to make a good impression on the school because I used to go there and I want to impress all the kids who were rude to me.

I abseloutly adore both outfits and I'm sorry for those awful people (I totally understand) and I think you should go with the second outfit, although more conservative it will impress the teachers and give you a confidence. I hope your daughter does well in school and that she enjoys it!

I've been trying to make sense of your question, and my interpretation at the moment is that your daughter will start school soon (but that's secondary) and you want to look really good when you drive her up there (and that's primary).
You've probably already asked your daughter what she thinks you should wear, but you aren't happy with her choices. And at some point she gave up on trying to help you and suggested you seek recommendations or opinions on Yahoo Answers.
Your husband probably makes enough money to allow you to spend with reckless abandon. So, if that's the case, my advice is for you to get many outfits. Wear one for the drive to school, and put others in the trunk of the car.
To guarantee to you impress people at the school, ask if there is a room where you can change clothes. Explain that you don't want to meet anyone at the school while wearing the same outfit you wore when driving to the school.
Change outfits as often as you think necessary.

Its your daughters first day of college, not yours. As a mother she needs support not a mother that is self absorbed by her looks. No one really cares what you are wearing, honestly. Your not the one in the college and does it really matter to you what others think. Wear something comfortable, and don't forget the best thing you can do is support your daughter. Please, don't embarrass her on the first day at Harvard.
