Guess you shoulda done your homework first before you bought a ferret. Ferrets always have a natural musky odor about them, even when descented, which most ferrets sold in pet stores are.
You can feed it chemicals(bi odor) and maybe the odor will get a little bit better, personally I think that's just wrong. Make sure that you scoop it's litter box at least twice a day and that you change it's bedding(I use old t-shirts) at least once a week and wash the cage down and wash their hammocks too.
Do not bathe them more than once a month, preferably even less, since bathing strips the oils from their bodies, which makes them itchy and their glands will produce more oils fast which in turn will make them smelly sooner.
Check the label on your food. Is there fish or fish by-product in it? That will make their poop smell really bad. For some reason Totally Ferret does too. You might want to switch foods.
Make sure you clean their ears and clean their teeth. The ears especially can get to smelling really bad.
Now, if you provide a room with ample ventilation you shouldn't have to much odor left, but like I said, there is always going to be SOME odor. It's a ferret after all. Guess you didn't think to check that out before you got it, eh?
You can either try to live with it or find it a good home.
PS: Path Valley Farms also spays and neuters prior to shipment.

I know what you are talking about. Unfortunately not all ferrets sold in pet stores are de-scented, spayed or neutered. I'm sure if you call your local vet, this can be done for the same cost as fixing a cat or dog and if the ferret is not spayed or neutered, get that done at the same time because the unaltered ferret would not tolerate another male. Not all ferrets come from Marshall's. There's another brand name called Pathway also. Customer's do not realize they're being ripped off when they purchase an unaltered ferret. The whole time I've been selling ferrets, I've only had a biting one once and I only sell de-scented, spayed/neutered.
Ferrets are meticulous about having a clean cage and will use the same spot repeatedly. Just don't buy cedar bedding and if you use pine, make sure it is heat treated and screened for dust.

When you purchase a ferret from a pet store they already come spayed or neutered and de-scented. They still have a natural musky odor, but it is easily tolerable with the use of a product called Ferret Bi-Odor. It is made by Marshall Pet Company (the world's largest and most reputable ferret breeder). Adding the Bi-Odor to the ferret's water reduces the smell of their waste, and also reduces the natural musky odor. They make wonderful pets as long as you are willing to do a little basic training. Get some bitter apple spray and use it on your hands when you play with your ferret. This will teach him that humans are fun, but they don't taste good. This is the easiest method of training bite inhibition. They can also be litter box trained. Good luck, and have fun!!!!!!

I have never heard of a ferret from a pet store that was not already de-scented. Is your ferret from Marshall Pet Farms or somewhere else? Most pet stores sell Marshall Ferrets. I'm sure a vet will be able to de-scent him for you for about the same price as a spay or neuter. Is your ferret already spayed or neutered? Also, Marshall Pets does make a deodorant spray for ferrets, and regular bathing with ferret deodorizing shampoo will help with his stink, too.
