it may not be trapped in the basement. look behind the fridge, they are often there - dont move it though because u could squish him. also check the stove. have some broccoli or other fresh food with u to lure him in case he's there. put a bucket out with books or something leading up to it so he can crawl to the edge. make a trail of food on the books, just a tiny bit, leading up the books and then put broccoli (no water) in the bottom of the bucket he'll fall in and be trapped and waiting for u. a small trash can or anything not too tall with smooth sides works. since u r home u make sure his cage is on the floor open and he may sneak in for food and u can catch him. if u see him but cant grab him u might put a trash can or something like that in front of him so he'll run in it or his ball if u have one. he'll come out at night hungry if u dont find him today. turn off everything & look & listen for him. careful of doors and make sure there's no way outside--like where the washer or sink is. how did he get out? u will want to address that once u find him.

close all doors in your house then place a small bit of food in each room and check regular to see if any has gone missing. If you notice any gone you'll know the hamster is in that room. if u r sure its the basement make sure any openings to outside r closed.

of course u shouldnt move on--he isnt safe stuck in your home or outside for sure. try to pinpoint the clawing to be sure shes not stuck & needs your help. if u have a crawl space under the house u amy wanna look there.

When I Was Little,
I Was Playing With My Hamster, Stewie.
And He Got Away From Me.
And Went Under A Car.
I Got Some Food,
Set It A Little Bit Away From The Car,
And About Ten Minutes Later He Came Out.
But He Died Like Three Weeks Ago.
And I Miss Him.
Anyway,
You Shouldn't Move On.
I Mean, She Could Die Down There.
And Then It Would Be Smelly..
But Don't Give Up Looking For Her.
I Do Hope You Find Her.

If you can hear her, dont give up looking. If you do take a break, put sunflower seeds or some other treat someplace where she will be easy to catch. Try to seal the room so she cannot change rooms. That way you know you never have to wonder if she is in another room.

I once found my missing gerbil by putting our dachound on a leash, and letting her sniff the house. Make sure you have good control of the leash though so the dog doesnt eat the hamster when found! Our dog found the gerbil behind a china cabinet. Everything worked out fine.

Listen seriously don't stop looking for her you will eventually find her. If she is clawing poor little thing is stuck somewhere so turn the lights on put some of her food in the middle of the basement so that if hs esmells it she will come out of where she is and carefully move things around until you find her. Don't worry if you still hear her she is alive probably just lost or stuck somewhere. Good Luck. :)

get a humane rat/mouse trap. you put food in it and when the hamster goes in to eat the door will close behind it and trap it in a box.
or get an empty pissue bow put a sheet of paper or somethin over the hol and put a bit of food ob the paper the hamster will fall in tryin to get the food.(worked on my hamsters)

Don't yell, though; you could be frightening her. Call in a friendly way. You know, she might actually be having fun, she doesn't realize how she needs you.
