A bad sinus infection that may not have cleared up entirely is the most likely culprit. I lost my smell/taste for 7 months straight and went to an ear/nose/throat specialist and was given an antibiotic and Flonase Nasal Inhaler and it did help after several weeks. But I honestly could not recall having a sinus infection.

is the loss temporary or permanent?
permant loss is caused by damage to specific cranial nerves. possibly a head injury in the past?

I cranial nerve=smell
VII cranial nerve = taste
IX cranial nerve= taste

if the loss is temporary, maybe you have a sinus infection?
