ICE!! And lot's of it. Ice always helps with pain, bruises or bumps.
Keep a ZipLock bag full of ice (preferably crushed) steadily on the bruise (hold it with tape, string or a towel) and the pain should go away quickly and it should disappear completely in 1 or 3 days.

Traditional treatment is ice--or frozen vegetables in the package, which can then be put into a nice stew--for the first 24 hours, at about half-hour intervals, then heat to increase blood-flow to the area, which aids in resorption. Aloe might do some good, but the easiest and most useful thing is witch-hazel, which is the long-ago remedy for bruising of all kinds. Make a cool pack of gauze soaked in witch-hazel and apply to the bruise--this kind of doubles your cure, as it were. Vitamin D is also helpful for this sort of thing--just get more sunlight.
Also, it is a good idea to use the appendage as usual, don't baby it. This increases blood-flow to the muscles involved, thus speeding the resorption. Truth is, this should take 3-5 days to go away, depending on your metabolism, and the bruise is not so important as the impairment due to swelling. If it works okay, don't sweat it. If it is a deep-muscle bruise, it will probably continue to deepen in color for 24-48 hours, then heal as usual. A word of warning, if the injury does not follow this pattern, or if you develop tissue sloughing on the surface, treat the open wound with triple antibiotic and keep it covered and moist. The offspring had this sort of wound, with slight scraping, and it proved most difficult to heal. Left quite a scar, too, by the time it did. Just in case, you understand.

My son gets bruised constantly and this is what works for us. Take some chamomile tea and make it up and put in the fridge for a few hours to make it really cold, then soak a compress in it and place it on the bruise until the compress feels warm and then resoak the compress and do it again. Do this for about 15 mins or so a few times a day. The cold helps the pain and there is something in the chamomile that heps take the blue/black out of the bruise and heal faster.

Put ice (in an icebag, preferrably) on it for 30-45 minutes. This should ease some of the swelling and pain. You should do this once to twice a day, and the following few days after, until the bruise becomes minor.
Alternatively, you can try putting some aloe vera gel (straight from the plant) on it, as this plant has been known to have soothing properties when applied topically.
You might also want to up your vitamin c intake, as a deficiency in vitC can make you more susceptible to bruising.

Ice! I had a nasty bruise after a sailboat accident, and found out later if I would have put ice on it, even later after getting home, it would have helped.
I think if you massage the area it helps the body absorb the blood that's causing the bruise.

The honey and sugar scrub will help get rid of the flaky skin. Then use organic coconut oil (put in a small (preferably glass)container you can keep with you) every 30 minutes or so till less dry. Then as needed. You can add a drop or two of Young Living lavender essential oil to the cc oil--I don't trust any other EO. Drink lots of water, and DON'T lick your lips.

common remedy: within 24 hours, use a cold compress; after 48 hours, use a warm compress
my family's remedy(tried & tested): we use a boiled unshelled egg, insert a $US 0.25 coin in the center of the egg and roll it gently over your bruised skin(while hot). The purple color will be absorbed by coin through heat.
i use it everytime i get a very bad bruise, and it works for me.
i don't advise of eating the boiled egg, cause i never tried eating it. (hee..hee)

A bruise is nothing more than bleeding beneath the skin and the only thing you can really do is ice it and wait.
