Since you are trying this as something new.....go to a department store, and have a cosmetician assist you in finding what you need. CLINIQUE is great ( I use it) and ID MINERALS is great as well(my mom swears by it). You need to learn how to take care of your skin properly by cleansing, toning, and moisturizing no matter what your skin type is. TRUST me, do it now, and by the time you are my age...you will not look it, you will look younger. I really like Clinique for it's simple 3 step cleaning, and they have really great products. Do not let them push you into buying everything, just only the basics...your 3 step program for your cleansing, toning, & moisturzing, a foundation, blush, mascara, & lip gloss. MAKE THEM SHOW YOU HOW TO APPLY IT PROPERLY, that is what they are paid to do as well as sell. If they recommend powder, request a loose translucent, color less powder. If they do not have one, go to a drugstore and look for Sally Hansen's Translucent Cornsilk, loose, colorless powder...I have used it for 20+ yrs.
If you opt for the Minerals makeup, which is excellent for your skin as well, make sure you have a cleansing regimine as well.
Good luck!!!!!

all right, here is what you do. First dab concealer around eyes if you have dark circles and on blemishes if you want. If you do put it around eyes make sure you only put it in the dark area and not directly under eyes because this will make the darker skin more noticable in contrast. I don't bother with foundation, you don't need that crap on your skin everyday.
Sweep some eyeshadow accross lids. Neutral colors are always flattering. One color is enough but you also put a lighter color under brows as a highlighter. That looks nice. A sparkly one looks good too, especially in summer. Line eyes with black or brown liner. This is probably the trickiest thing to put on. Don't overdo or you will look like a clown. More at night is ok. Also it is best to either play up eyes or lips so if you want to wear more eye liner and darker shadow do not wear a really bright or dark lip color or vice versa. At night though you can get away with both as long as you don't overdo. Use a lash curler, this is my favorite make up tool. Really makes eyes pop! Then mascara, you can do 2 coats at night, emphasizing the outer lashes. Use black, and maybelleine mascara is best truley. That's what all the experts I've heard have said, even the lady who did my makeup for my wedding.
Find a blush that compliments your skin tone, like a pink or peach. Powder will complete the look, making the skin flawless looking. I invested in Sheer Cover and really like it, I hear Bare Minerals is also good. They give your skin this airbrushed, yet dewy look. Lip gloss is good for the shiny lips over your color.
I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money on your makeup. I like Estee Lauder and Clinique but honestly Cover Girl and Maybeline do the same. And always buy Maybeleine mascara. I have tried others like Estee Lauder and they are far more expensive and always clump! This is what I have found to work for me. Good luck, hope my advice helps you!

Go to a cosmetic counter at a department store and ask one of the reps. to do your makeup. You may end up buying some items, but at least you know how to apply it. I suggest that you go to a MAC counter as the reps. are better skilled.
