is there any schools that i can take paleontology courses online. I am willing to go to school, but I was just curious if there were any online. I'm very serious about being a Paleontologist, I would also like start any friendships with any Paleontologist or students of, to share theories and any information.

Exactly...... unfortunately you must do hands on to have the full experience of paleontology. Holding exquisite specimens in your hands gives you a deeper and better understanding of exactly what you are looking at. Field work is just as valuable. The thrill of finding your "own" fossil, one that no one has ever seen before, is great.

But, first things first.. I strongly urge you to take some first level geology courses. This gives you the background and basis for understanding processes of geology and fossil formation.

Local colleges and universities are the place to start. Natural history museums may have volunteer programs to allow you to assist in the fossil collections. State Geological Surveys sometimes offer summer internships to students. Most also have extensive fossil collections and paleontologists on staff.

I also urge you to take a course in paleobotany. It was one of the most fascinating courses I ever took.

What the heck... shoot for your dreams, get a degree in geology, go for a masters and do your thesis in paleontology.

I have been a geologist for over 30 years and I still like to go out and look for fossils.

Good luck!

Lots of schools offer courses online, but taking Paleontology online would be a bit like learning piano by watching a slide show.
You need to be able to handle fossils and other samples, interact realtime with professors and classmates, and (best part of the course!) participate in field trips.
My most memorable experiences in college were the field trips. Finding fossils in the field is an experience that can not be matched by looking at photos online.

Do a goggle search and just ask any of the universities that teach that subject. I'm not too certain the subject would/could be taught on-line, tho.

I'm pretty sure that all colleges allow you to take the courses online...
