I am 17 and started my period when i was 12. I have never been regular am usually very heavy but very short (only about 2-3 days) but i havent had a period in about 7-8 months. Is there something. wrong? I asked my doctor but she just brushes me off and all the other doctors are male so i dont want to see them. Before you think it, there is no way i am pregnant.

There can be a lot of reasons. Common ones are anorexia and over exercising. You could have some hormonal issues too, but your doctor should not have brushed you off. Insist that she talk to you about it next time.

Find another doctor who takes you seriously. Amenorrhea is serious and although she may not think so it is your body and you have a right to know what is going on. There are a number of causes from being overweight/underweight to hormonal imbalances and illness. One common reason is PCOS ( poly cystic ovary syndrome) a simple blood test to check hormone levels can determine the cause. Tell your doctor you want to know why it is happening and ask her to check your hormone levels including your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) , LH (leutenizing hormone), and your FSH ( folicle stimulating hormone). Be persistent .. the squeeky wheel gets the grease and the quiet one gets ignored.

Have you lost or gained a great deal of weight? Years ago, I gained about 40 pounds. I didn't have my period for an entire year, but then it went back to being normal and I had no more problems with it.
