The founding fathers did not give voting rights to women or slaves. Although I like to think Jefferson in particular was a man of high ideals, I have to say I think the founding fathers were fairly traditional people and would have opposed gay marriage.

I imagine that the founding fathers were rather conservative and traditional in that area of thinking.. They wouldn't approve of it because that was the type of religious and cultural environment they existed in. It was very taboo, but then again so were women wearing pantaloons. A lot of things we view as normal today would absolutely disgust the founding fathers because of the cultural gap. Like it or not all of them were brought up an reared in the regal custom and culture of jolly old England, and they lived like it even after we separated ourselves. To base a decision off of what our founders would have thought is absurd and futile, but it makes for an interesting topic of discussion for us old windbags who love debating stuff. The founding fathers would probably try to sell us back to England if they saw what we have become, We are worse than King George ever could have been to us, and they would have the logic and the whereabouts to understand it.

They would probably think, My God how stupid this country has got that they actually view gay marriage as a problem, when you have people who cant afford to heat their homes, jobs are being sent overseas,we are no longer internationally respected, feared maybe, but not respected, children are starving all across this country, our schools are ridiculously outdated, children arent really learning anything, we are consumed by the need for more possessions as if that will make us important, and instead of coming up with a viable option for power, we start wars for oil.

they would think it was unspeakable

but society changes. That's why they made things like the Constitution changeable. That's why the government is run by the people and not a bunch of old dead guys' beliefs.

I don't particularly like gay marriage, but I believe people have a right to it
