I think that there are two ways but neither is exactly euthanasia friendly -
1. Poison it
2. Ring It

With answer 2., I don't mean ring as in phone but there's a technique where you can cut partly into the rings (as stated above) or if I remember right from high-school, you can 'strangle' it by putting a metal ring around the tree. You might be able to google 'Tree Ringing'.

Otherwise, if it's a water-thirstly bush, just don't water it?

Ring the base. Cut deep enough to severe the bark around the circumference of the tree 1/2 inch wide. It will prevent water from reaching above the cut and kill the tree.

You can cut a holly bush down, but it you leave a stump and the roots, the bush will grow back again. I speak from experience because it is what my holly bushes did. I didn't want them because they cause the same type of blisters on me that poison ivy does, but cutting them down didn't kill them.

cut a ring of bark out at the base of the trunk. you can use anything sharp, but the best way is to wrap a chain around it tightly and move it back and forth until a ring is cut away, then leave the chain on until the bush is dead. this will cut off the plants water supply and bam, dead.

Being wiccian, we NEVER kill a holly tree. It's protects your property, but if you must, just dig it up, and see if you can give it to someone, or replant it further from the house.

Copper sulfate. It's green/blue grains like coarse sand. Get it from the hardware store. It's used to kill roots that have broken into pipes.
