There is also the night bloomomg cereus. Check out www.Davesgarden.com It is a succulent that grows all jumbled, and has a flower that blooms for about 10-12 hours, and only at night.It can be up to 10" accross. Those of us that own them, plan an all night party for these beauties. It is one of the most spectacular sights I have seen. Daves web site will show you the beauty of the cereus. It's easy to get a cutting from a plant by just breaking off a piece, and sticking it in potting soil. Hope you can find this one. It's worth it. The answer above told WHY.

It has been established that yes there are plants that open at night. The answer to why has previously been stated, but another reason is pollination. Some flowers are pollinated by moths, bats, and other animals that emerge at night.

yes, there is a flower, i want to say it is in the rose family, that opens at night. it is commonly a hanging basket with multicolors of blooms. for the life of me i cannot think of its name. but it is awesome to watch as it opens.

Yes. I had a flower that bloomed only at night and when morning came they flowers would die. But why I don't know that part.
