I was just there, and the simple answer that is staring you in the face is: What would you like someone to do when you were away?
Write snail mail, emails, answer the phone when she calls, be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there, don't hold her deployment against her, send her gifts, use Yahoo Messenger with webcam to talk to her, everything you think would be positive, do.
There should be nothing you should be worrying her about, let her know what to pack - what works, what doesn't. Tell her to take some girly baby wipes since she'll get tired of the ones that smell like baby's butts. Be practical and not overly sentimental, but make sure she knows you'll be there when she gets home and you're there to support her every step of the way.
Most of all, make sure you tell her you love her every single chance you get.

You have the solution in your explanation. Letters, letters and more letters. And include in them the chatty, newsie things that are happening all around you. After a while, saying "I love you, I miss you" gets to be a bit of a drag. Although you should say that all of the time. But then you could talk of the first freeze, and how the frost formed crystals on the flowers, or drew patterns on the windows. Just keep the letters flowing.

Staying away from love hurts, i myself have an experience, i love my girlfriend mad, hard to live without her, so i try my best to keep my mind off her, i try not to think of her, yes i do love her, and if she is going far from you dont worry, just lover her, send silly letters, so that she smiles and be normal, if you think of her too deep then u will become mad about her, so please, i know it hurts heart, so just be positive, and simple, and send her letters such that even she wont become too mad about you, or else this long distance will be bad. so just dont worry, you dont know friend, but i m in hell, being so far away from her, and this is what i do, tears falling from my eyes while answering these are the proof, wish u could see it.

Go to your family support office. They have great pamphlets that can help in these situations; these pamphlets give great examples of what to and what not to do. Plus they are geared toward military members and their loved ones. Good Luck.
