Ever? Mickey Mantle, who appeared in 2401 games. (Odd person to hold the record given his reputation as injury-prone, but that's it.) Among active players it's Bernie Williams, at 2055 games (and counting).
For pitchers, the record-holder for both career and active players is Mariano Rivera (716 games and counting).
