If it is going on the same cable as your hard drive the jumper on the dvd is set to slave if it is going on the cable with your slave hard drive the dvd jumper is set to master and the slave drive is set to slave the min procerror speed to run a dvd drive is 500 to 800mhz if yours is above that you will have no problems the drive works at full burnig speed if attached to a 80 pin IDE cable but 40 pin will do the same job if you want the higher pin can get from any computer shop hope to have been as simple with this as I can for you
