Is there such a document that is proof of not being married? This is one of the things I was told I would need to obtain in order to immigrate to Hong Kong.

i figure have them run your social security number through the system and have them print out a document it should have on there rather or not you are married single divorced or widowed never heard of you needing proof of not being married though sounds kinda strange might wanna go get a second opinion.

If I were you, I would ask them to show me a sample, or ask him does he need documents that proof that you're alive.
Seem to me that they are playing you out.
Some even ask you to prove that you're not a prostitute.
There's a Chinese proverb for people like them:-
"Holding a feather, wielding it as a sharp arrow"
