...error message saying admin has disabled it but as sole user i haven't. help!

Im not 100% sure what you did,but I think you might have accidentally went to the users section of task manager and tride to diconnect yourself or something.

There are afew viri that disable task managers use , so that you cannot end task it .

try looking at your MSconfig. Type msconfig into your run command from the start menu ....when it loads look in the startup section . This should give you some idea as to what exe's are running at bootup.

Definitely try a virus scan and remove any infections

Well, you might have accidently set your account up as a limited account. Continuously press F5 during startup to bring it to safe-mode, then log in as "Administrator", and change your account type to administrator

You may be infected with virus.
The common one with this symptom would be Brontok.
