Death is the ultimate result of life and in between; we take the advantage of purifying soul., which may lead us to immortality. But one who does not avail the opportunity of this inner purification process of the soul shall remain or perish like sole.

For the completely purified soul, death releases the soul from the ordeal of life and death and it eventually merges with the God; for such of the souls, which have not completely worked out their karma, death does not mean a full stop; it is a coma; it is a threshold to another life, commencing from another birth. This cycle of birth and death will go on until the karma is completely wiped out.

I feel that it's something very complicated. Why do you believe in the concept of an eternal soul anyway?

There are a few ideas on this subject. Firstly, there's Existentialism, people like Giacomo Leopardi and Arthur Schopenhaur advocated it. It bascially says that you were born because you were, just a fact of nature, and that when you die, you're dead, gone forever.

Then there's whatever religion you do (as long it's the sane type ie, not like Scientology or New Ageism). Basically says that you're here in your consciousness, your You because you got lost a long time ago. And you're here to find your way back. In Christianity, when you die, you go to heaven or hell depending whether or not you were good--that's Protestantism. In Catholicism, there's something called Purgatory, but it's essentially the same thing since they all believe in God, Christ...
Buddhism is more complicated so I won't explain it, look it up yourself.

Death is just, very simply, the absence of life. Not truth, not love, just when you cease to be. Emily Dickinson was one amazing woman who had loads to say on this. Read her poems.

life is not only the process to purify our souls but also a ladder towards God. So it continues after the death also.

Death is a return journey for the place from where you came from so that you live as who you are. This life is like you have travelled to some place for some reason probably like staying in a hostel and studying. Once finished you will go back to your home and will start your life.. So death is a journey back home...
