Honestly, if I were you, don't bother wasting your money on a book (unless you're going to loan one from your local library). You have all the information you're ever going to need right at your fingertips here on the internet.

If you want to see different kinds of fish and water requirements, personally, I think one of the best sites is http://www.liveaquaria.com . It's actually a site where you can buy fish, but ignore all the pricings and whatnot. You can see what healthy fish look like, and they give you general information on pH and temp preferances, as well.

And please please please - I know I've been uber hard on you in the past, but listen to what we have to tell you. You canNOT overstock your tank unless you're willing to do extra water changes to keep up with nitrates. With most tropical fish, you can follow the one inch of adult slim-bodied fish per one gallon of water rule of thumb. Look at what the adult size of all of your fish will be, and calculate that into how big of a tank you're going to get. Honestly, if I were you, get as a big a tank as you possibly can - they are easier to take care of once you get past initial cycle, and they're harder to overstock. (Tip for the trade - look on your local Craigslist site for free or really cheap tanks - I just saw a free 55-gallon tank/stand/filter combo, but I have no room for it right now.)

And if you ever have any questions or problems, know you can come on to this site to get your answers. Know there are going to be people that will give you stupid answers, but also know, I know what I'm talking about. I may not be the nicest person all the time, but I know how to care for fish, and I can help you - but only if you're willing to listen and stop personally attacking people for giving you good advice.

Make sure you get decent advice from the aquarium - and make sure the water is right before you add any fish. If the aquarium is good they will quiz you about the size of the tank, give you advice on what fish can go together and let you know how to care for them.

Im assuming you mean tropical fish. Well, my family used to keep them for a long while. We had guppies, danios, oscars, siamese fighting fish, plecostimus catfish, and many more in a massive aquarium. First get a big tank. Then get an undergravel filter system. Then get some decent gravel. Then get some oxgenation pumps. Then get an in tank heater. Then some plants. Then your fish. Simple.
