I was raped as a small child by the son of my babysitter. At the time, I didn't understand what was happening, but now - being 16 - I know what he did and I've started wondering how he could do such a thing and how, in the weeks and months afterward, there were no indications that he felt the least bit sorry or remorseful afterward.
How can someone be like that and act that way after raping a five year old girl? Can anyone tell me?

I am aware that I should have reported this, but I was only 5 when it happened. I trusted him and he told me not to tell anyone, so I didn't. I didn't know any better.
And now that I am older, i have notified my parents.

I am willing to bet that a high number of rapists suffered some form of sexual abuse themselves. (Not that there is any excuse--but it can help to PARTLY explain why these people rape. Of course, there are many individuals who suffer sexual abuse and never hurt anyone else--so there are other factors at work too.) The young man who raped you probably lacks empathy for one. He was unable to put himself into your shoes and see how much it would have hurt you. Also, a number of pedophiles and rapists have a very skewed notion of reality. They can convince themselves that the victim was a tease, really wanted it, etc.

I feel so badly for you. I am very much against rape and want to see the perverts punished harsher.
My girlfriend got raped by her niece's dad at the age of twelve. He ended up telling my gf how funny it would be she got pregnant just like her sister. Well, it ended up happening and she ended up giving this child up for open adoption and he lives right down the road from us! People cope in different ways and I know this sounds weird but I think that I am more upset over the rape of my girlfriend than she is.
I think that although nothing can be done now because it's too late you should report it so it's at least noted that this man might be a rapist. Good luck to you and I hope you get the help you need to over come this horrible experience.

People "rape" because they have a physial need for power and to have their sexual desire satisfied.
The sexual desire runs rampant in them and they have to "satisfy" the urge. But, in doing so, they use thier "power" over the weak to inflict themselves over some one, to satisfy the lust they feel and must discharge.
Once they rape, and get away with it, they are emboldened to do so again, until they are eventually caught.
Its a shame you didnt tell your parents about this, so that your attacker could be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and made to pay for his crime against your innocence.
By not reporting this, he may have raped more unsuspecting children or even adults now, and gotten away with it. I would check your local newspapers and see if there are unsolved rapes in the area, and contact the Police about this situation. You may be doing some young lady or child a huge favor by letting the Police know what happened to you as a child and stop him, if he is still perpetrating this crime against other females or even males!

I'm so sorry to hear about your terrrible experience. Rape is an act of power and anger. My guess is that the boy felt a lot of hatred for his dad, your babysitter. Little defenseless you was a perfect outlet for his anger.
