In theory, if we ate healthy foods we should get all the necessary nutrients from our diet, and many health professionals will say so. However, in fact, most of us eat far too much fat and sugar and not nearly enough fresh fruits and veggies.

Competent nuritionists also know that our produce is grown in depleted soils. A fruit or veg cannot contain nutrients that were not in the soil to begin with. Commercial chemical fertiizers return only three nutrients to the soil: N, P and K. The micronutrients have long been exhausted. All you have to do to appreciate the difference is to taste a home-grown tomato or potato compared to a commercial one. No comparison!

I eat smart but I also take a multivite as an insurance policy. And since human beings and guinea pigs are the only mammals that do not produce their own Vitamin C, 1000 mg/day is a must to prevent colds and other infections!

Some vitamins supplements are pointless if you are a fit person, since you get the best from food and drink. but if you have a problem. like I have yes they really work. I find vitamin D a big help with depression and related problems. Remember that you life stile may be obverse to taking supplements, Smoking destroys the absorption. Drinking alcohol of some types destroy vitamins. but wine in small doses gives some. If you have a colon problem you may not absorb vitamins naturally so this is where supplements can really help, along with something like aloe Vera to help the abortion

Unfortunately we are not getting the nutritional benefits from eating that we use to, the food we are growing is not as packed with the vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. It is important that you are taking a good quality vitamin that will be absorbed by your body and not just pass through. Most vitamins available OTC really do nothing to enhance your wellbeing because of their absorption rate. There are healthy choices out there and the AMA now recommends that everyone should be taking a nutritional supplement. Do your due diligence and check around - make sure that you aren't fooled by the hype and flashy advertising. Ask people what they are taking - and ask if they have blood work results to back up their claims. My cholesterol count has dropped by simply taking good supplements, and my minerals and electrolytes are great. Don't get caught up in all the things that people says your body needs - I am not sure of any clinical research that says you need wheatgrass, and eye of newt and all the rest of the unusual ingredients. You need vitamins to help your body function properly. The problem is that most people take too much. For example, taking too much Vitamin C can cause stomach problems such as diarrhea. Shoot for 100% of the dietary guidelines.

Supplements are a different story. Some companies combine harmful ingredients in their pills like ephedra which can cause heart attacks. Make sure you deal with a reputable company.

I certainly do not get colds and illness like I did before I started taking vitamin and mineral supplements. It is very difficult to get a 100% balanced diet including all the nutrients our bodies require, in today's world of processed foods.

I always take a high quality NATURAL multiple vitamin one-a-day supplement, a flax seed oil capsule and a supplement with calcium, magnesium & zinc to protect my bones, heart and immune system. It definitely works for me.

There are two schools of thought on this.
one being that they take so long to disolve that they do little to no good. This would make sense if it weren't for the strong acids in our stomaches that can break down a complete meal in less than five or six hours.

I think taking supplements as singles is much better than a multi because you are taking what you need and leaving out the rest.

One that works very well is Royal Jelly. All the vit. I take are in gel caps so they break down quicker.

As for getting what you would need in your foods that would mean eating a whole lot of food each day and then exercising it off too. So unless you are willing to be a slave to the food thing take the supplements lol!

Yes they do work. I will remind everyone they do not replace a healthy diet they are a supplement!!!! peachy is right. Liquid is the best for getting the most out of it. The pill form can also work well as long as you get a quality brand that does not contain all the fillers and dyes. Your best bet is Vitamin World or GNC. Some people crush them to help break them down faster.

If you stick to a balanced, healthy diet, you should obtain all the vitamins and minerals you need. Obviously, not everyone can do that, so a daily multi-vitamin would be alright to supplement what you already do receive.

NO. The reason these tablets were created was because of the way we eat changed, our society started eating junk food and that meant we did not get the necessary vitamins and minerals our body needs.

But if you eat a healthy diet enough veg and things you do not need to buy these tablets. Drink plenty to keep potassium levels high and plenty of iron found in offal (liver) for blood count health.

Depends on the brand and type of vitamin. I take spirlina vitamin, they have wheatgrass, chlorophyl, and other healthy plant proteins, they boost ammune systems. They also give me energy. Another really good one is wheatgrass, it has proven to lower blood pressure and clean veins and organs. I know from personal experience some vitamins do really help
