I hate to state the obvious but during the menstruation period a women sheds the lining of her uteris and bleeds - all this can lead to a smell - it can also come down to how often she changes her pad/tampon

Hell I'm male and know this one you shed the lining of your uterus so that makes a fowl smell

The blood and tissue comes out and if you don't change your pad or tampon it will start to have and odor!
