The answers you give are certainly creating and expanding an already very large knowledge database.

They also tell a lot about ones attitude, beliefs, values, character, political & religious preference. But also ones strengths and potential weaknesses, likes and dislikes.

Are all intentions honest? Do you consider this information could be used to gain and or gather personal, statistical, political information for things such as advertising, interest rate, or governmental or other than sincere agenda?

This site has helped many people find answers to troubling questions, and started some great debates, but are people learning? or just getting answers.

Which btw one can find by many means, not involving the recording of idividuals thoughts and ideas.

Are these records permanant? Quite obviously

Are these Q&A's, evidence of our culture and more? Again, I think so.

What else should we be questioning?

Your....'thoughts'...?

It's not only possible, it's probable. But knowing that, I only answer what I know will not come back to bite me in the hiney (does hiney get censored?) in real life. It's no different from anything else you put out over the internet so I just make sure I keep important personal information out of Y!A. A little discretion goes a long way.

I'm not so sure it's a good thing to list all the questions you've asked and answered on your profile. And I don't believe anyone can take any survey from the answers we give because a lot of people are joking around when they respond. There are answers though that can and do enlighten, even though sometimes the best answer is not the accurate answer but the questioner still likes that answer so they give it the 10 points anyway. The Q&A is a like a blog and give people things to chat about. I'm sure that was the intention. The Q&A also makes people aware and that's a good thing. While providing info does not change peoples minds it does inform.

This is the age of Big Brother - of course, we're being monitored.
Do I like it? Nope. Does it worry me? Nope. Can I do anything about it? Well, except for forswearing the Internet completely, nope.
So, until the Thought Police come knocking on my door some morning at 3 am to put me in Room 101, I'll continue as I have been doing.

I am happy that I can share my gardening skills, my cooking recipes, my many years of traveling and some of the knowledge in my over 2500 books. After four hours non-stop radio talk--which is very draining, I love the interaction and humour. The fact that other search engines are planning to copy this lets me know that other people are observing this very successful experiment.

Monitored by the public or yahoo?
Not yahoo they just deal with posts that have been reported.
I do think that you should be allowed to delete a resolved question.
It should be your right to do this.
Now as to this answers thing.
Its a great look into human behavior and some answers are very helpful.

I don't think that our info is used for some greater purpose.
Image the way that these sites would be, if there was no monitoring.
Some people would be cursing, bieng discriminatory, and would make personal attacks on people .
Because the sites are monitored, we don't have any of that.
Just good old censorship.!!!!

Many of our thoughts, most likely, are being monitered, but it doesn't seem like yahoo is the one doing it lol.
There are many things in everyday life, on tv, radio etc that we should question and we don't. We could be doomed already and not know it, with or without yahoo answers.

I definitely think they are being monitored. I haven't been here long enough to know if the boards are swept clean after any length of time, but I'm sure all this info is here for a long, long time.

i certainly believe that everything is monitored via internet..anti-terrorism security or not, we are under constant control. i ve thought about it a lot..if its ok because we can save millions from attacks planned on the net...on the other hand, not being able to say exactly what you want...i dont know..its tricky!
