motor has very bad banging sound so i figure i need to swap out the motor.

looks like 82-86 chevy citation, pontiac 6000, pontiac phoenix, olds omega, buick skylark, use the same part # for the goodwrench engine. good luck.

Any 2.8 V6 from a front wheel drive car will swap in. Chevy Citation, Chevy Celebrity, just about any front wheel drive '80s GM car might have one. The rear wheel drive Pontiac Fiero also uses the same motor. Also most of the FWD 3.1's and 3.4's will bolt in, but you may have a hard time figuring out how to wire them up.

Yea, what mott said, lots of GM products had that piece of crap engine in them.
