There's a hefty fuckin' fee. Religion requires someone to be led blindly and simply agree to entire system that someone else thought up. I'd say that's pretty expensive. Example: I tell you that the only way you will get into heaven is to stand on your head everytime you have a bowel movement.
That's kind of a minature Bible in itself(holy book in general). Why should you believe me? Is the prize enough to make you do such a thing? How can something that's free have requirements on the receiving side? That's not free at all, its just clever marketing. Its kind of like those internet scams that tell you you'll get a free laptop to only find that you must do all this crap like sign-up for various companies that end up costing you anyway...so does that example work? I'm not saying religion is somekind of hoax ,but this is a generalization of why it isn't free and why people "knock it".

Because it's too close to this scenario: I'll give you a million--heck, a trillion--dollars once you're dead, if you just be my personal servant for all your life. No, really, you'll get the big prize...once you die. Have faith! In every other respect, it is "human nature" to demand the big prize up front, before the work, or in the case of the TV hit-man, half now, the other half once the job's finished.

Because the price it too high, especially for women. By the way, does it ever occur to you that the expectation of a happier life after death has only ever served to prevent an awful lot of people from seeking to make life for themselves and others better DURING their lives?

Free doesn't mean without any effort. It means you are free to use your sixth sense and determine what is right and what is wrong for you. When you take the right course of action, definitely heaven is yours. Certainly, nothing can be achieved without hard labour, right?

There is no religion that can take a person to heaven. And religion is not free, the least it will cost you is access to heaven. Jesus Christ rebuked the religious rulers of his day and said to them, "...woe to you scribes and pharisees, play-actors! (hypocrites) because you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men (denying them access to it): becuase you neither go in yourselves, neither do you allow those that are entering it to go in."
Religion has never once allowed anyone to gain access to the true and living God. I said this in another post a day or so ago, that "Christianity" is a world religion that was built by men as a monument around a profound spiritual reality. Jesus Christ did not come to earth and die on a cross to start another religion. That would be totally stupid. In John 14:6, Jesus said, "...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father (the one true and living God), except by me."
Notice He didn't say that all roads lead to God. He didn't say that the Buddists and the Hindus are going to heaven. The Bible is clear that salvation (rescue from damnation, and the subsequent eternal life with God) is only available to man through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His sacrifice for sin is the only enduring sacrifice for the sins of the world.
Acts 4:12 says this: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven (the name of Jesus Christ) given among men, by which we must be saved."
The rest of the New Testament is abundantly clear also, that there are no works of righteousness that a man or woman can perform, by which they can obtain salvation from God.
Titus 3:4&5 - "But after that the kindness and love of God our savior appeared toward man, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us..."
Ephesians 2:8&9 - "Becuase through grace (the supernatural power of God) you are saved through faith (the spiritual method of receiving the grace) and this does not come from yourselves, it is a gift from God: Not of works, so that men cannot brag on themselves."
In other words, Jesus paid the full price for man's sins on the cross. Salvation is a spiritual reality that is available to everyone, all we have to do is receive it. It is a free gift given to us by God Himself. We tap into the power of it by merely believing the testimony of Jesus Christ and confessing Him with our mouths.
Romans 10:9&10 - "if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. Because with the heart man believes unto righteousness (right-standing with God); and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
This is the means by which a person can become "born again," which simply means being made spiritually reunited with God.
Jesus said in John 3:3, "...except man (or woman, for that matter) is born again, they cannot see the kingdom of God." By the term, "kingdom of God" he is making reference to what we call heaven. As it turns out, there is a whole lot more that a person receives by believing in Jesus Christ that merely dying a physical death and going to heaven. That really is kind of a chidish understanding of the whole thing, but it is probably not a bad place to start for most people that don't know anything about these things. The truth is, there's a whole lot more than the church crowd even knows about. We are just beginning to tap into it.
Anyhow, if you will ask Jesus to come into your heart and make you new, He will. He loves you more than you could possibly ever imagine. He is not like people here on earth, He actually cares and wants to help you. It's mainly a matter of finding the "front door" so to speak, so that you can get inside. "Heaven" does not begin when you die. It begins as soon as you say "yes" to Jesus. We can experience His presence on a daily basis once we are born again - if we are willing.

Religion isn't for everyone. Like me, for instance, I think that religion is not free because it forces people to accept a restricted set of guidelines to living that conflict with my own ideas. I prefer to be agnostic since heaven and god are impossible to prove

Religion is hardly free. All parishoners have to contribute to their parish. As a true believer of any faith, there has to be some sacrifice made in your life, some changes.....

If your referring to Christianity then it's because it contradicts itself mainly because God is all loving and all forgiving but will condemn you to the most horrible place if you don't follow his special rules. Also if you focus on the idea of the church which is probably the most corrupt organization in the world, but supported by our lord and savior.

Because we are too sceptical and find it hard to believe things that we can't see with our own eyes. And, there are too many conflicting arguments over religion (all of them) which creates disillusion.
