Changes which I have noted since the 1950's primarily surround personal habits and previously social taboos. For instance, a person going to prison then was a total insult to the persons relatives and friends. A girl getting pregnant was a stigma that would last for life and bring shame onto her family. It never seemed to effect the child's father. Talk of sex was an almost forbidden subject, let alone taking part in the act. Living in sin was a total no-no, but now it takes up about fifty percent of young couples. Divorce was a very last option for married couples as it was said 'you made your bed, now sleep in it'. Domestic violence was more common then with police taking little or no action until usually the female partner was hospitalised, maimed or indeed murdered. Child abuse was probably more common then as children were usually advised by their parents and others not to say anything. It is more widely publicised nowadays. Rape is reported more often now, but I think it was always a risk for females. Homosexuality was a hidden secret and totally illegal even with consenting males. It is far more open and common now.
Some of the above problems with the then society have changed for the better now, but I fear that some have got worse. I leave you to judge which ones I refer to..................
p.s. A very good question which should open an excellent discussion.......

There used to be a saying - Children should be seen and not heard. Now children run some households because of weak parenting.

Marriage for one.
The young no longer want to get married in the traditional sense. They will live together, have children, remain faithful and loving to each other, but will not take vows or go through the marriage process.

Good manners, having respect for yourself and others. Last but not least taking responsibility for your own actions. I find that people today get away with blaming others for their misfortunes and bad choices they make. Its the poor me syndrome.

Marriage-definitely. Not only by the debate to allow homosexual "marriage", but by the fact that so many people take their marriage vows lightly....divorce is the easy out!
