Yes I believe that he is. He combines good power and speed, and his OBP is up over 50 pts. from last year. And he is a very, very good shortstop and is only going to get better.

Reyes or David Wright could end up as NL MVP. Although Derek Jeter has a higher batting average, Reyes has shown more power, and as a lead off hitter, he's been able to jump start the Mets offense. So far, Reyes is having the best year for all shortstops.

Reyes is a good SS, the best? He still has a way to go to prove himself like a Tejada or Jeter. One good year does not make a great ballplayer. Look at Juan Samuel, you'd think he was the greatest 2nd baseman ever after 1984. Monster numbers - then after 3 decent seasons - just a journeyman player. Talk to me about Reyes in 5 more years

Ok you mets fans are going a little nuts Derek Jeter is much, much better than Jose Reyes. Reyes has come a long way, but he has a long way to go, and, eventually, may even surpass Jeter. He has a lot of potential but right now its not even close.

He's in the top tier, but not the best. He's 5th among major league shortstops in OPS (the best all-in-one hitting stat), 7th in fielding percentage, and he's not even in the top 10 for range factor. His speed on the bases does add a factor that isn't easily integrated with the above stats, but I'd still rank him a bit below the likes of Jeter and Tejada.

As long as Reyes plays in New York (most probably one of the few franchise faces, in my opinion), Reyes will always be in the shadow of Derek Jeter.

Yes, just look at the numbers. Homeruns, RBI's, Double, Triples, Runs Scored, Average, Stolen Bases, Fielding percentage.

He's by far the best shortstop in the majors.

HELLLLLLLLL NO! Derek Jeter is about to win the AL MVP and Reyes hasnt even been considered for the NL MVP and the race in the AL is way tighter then in the NL.

Yes
Offensively look at his stats as of September 1st

Batting avg .299
16 Home Runs and 70 RBIs.....out od the leadoff spot!
27 doubles + 16 triples+ 16 homers = 59 extra base hits that gives him a .494 slugging pct.
he's a little more patient at the plate 43 walks.
and speed.....55 stolen bases (caught stealing 13 times) imagine if he learns how to steal bases? He's stealing them just with his speed alone. If he studied the pitchers moves while in the dugout say the way Lou Brock did, instead of joking around like he's known to do he could surpass Henderson.

Defense....watch him play....he gets to balls like Ozzie Smith did...and he has a stronger arm.
Barring injuries... he could be one of the all time best.
