My friend says it's a pat-down check at an airport, but if forensics teams do it by digging up gardens, how is that the same word? Can't find the word in usual dictionaries, am curious?

A "fingertip search" at an airport is when they place their thumb and forefinger on your nipple to see if they are real or muzzles of a pistol. Your friend is wrong, it's more forensics than anything.
