I don't think so, because there are certain sections on here that are serious, and really I think serious questions should get serious answers, but there are sections such as jokes and riddles, trivia, and others, that are intended to be lighthearted. A joke in this case may not be 'worthwhile' in that sense but it may make others smile, therefore it's 'worthwhile' in another way. Some of these people may be living alone and it is a way of communicating with others, just so they feel less alone.
They may not offer anything worthwhile but they might get a lot out of it.
Who knows?

I think "worthwhile" is too subjective a defining reason for barring someone from this site.

I do think Yahoo should permanently ban anyone who makes any direct racist, homophobic comments. These are illegal any where else (in the UK).

Secondly, the site does seem to be populated with what seem to me paedophile "groomers", and a number of people plying their prostitution trade it would seem. I don't think there is any place for that.

I have just reported a woman for offensive remarks about a paedophile victim in the news. This woman has asked questions regarding children (she claims to have one) and an extreme number of questions regarding sexual practices. That sort of person should be thrown off.

As my nan would say, "no use, nor ornament.!"

Obviously, amazing people like me who answer questions with consideration and on a number of occasions with great humour contribute greatly to this site!

It's only a subjective view that such answers are not worthwhile. One man's infuriatingly glib response may greatly amuse someone else. Anyway, where does one draw the line? Should one examine all questions and decide that they have to be of a certain standard of merit? How does one decide? Would Yahoo really want to spend resources on this type of policing? Some people, to be blunt are stupid/ignorant/infantile but maybe they still have the same right to express themselves. All censorship has a whiff of fascism about it to me

Yahoo purgatory or sub categories? This site is similar to a democracy. So voting on a persons questions and answers should reflect onto their point system or show a negative point value also. Such as negative points for a high percentage of negative answers. Yahoo answers is supposed to encourage people to become better people and to learn to use the resources on the Internet. So both Yahoo Answers and it's users can evolve into something that can potentially help everyone.

I believe Yahoo should block the obscene and racially generated users - permanently. This board is really informative on alot of issues, I have found alot of help on here when I haven't asked about it. It does make for good reading, even the corny ones. I know that we have the option of just skipping over the questions asked, but some of the issues you just can't ignore. There are other websites they can go on to vent their perverse aggressions. Most people come on here because they have a genuine concern to ask or comment about.

Who would be the decision makers? Your definition of 'never' or even 'worthwhile' may differ from thousands of others.

Should Yahoo Answers permanently block those people who make blatant reference to sex, racial hatred, rape, pediphilia etc. YES! Absolutely. I think any post that contains the above is evidence enough to support their permanent expulsion.

I personally think it should be split into categories .... probably 3

one for anyone , but block the offensive posts
one for the younger ones ( no adults at all , and closely monitored)
and one for the genuine users of this service , vetted by your questions and answers posted.

I admit I have answered afew questions that are purely humour , and some may be taken as bad taste , but thats all i treated it as , humour and nothing more.As for the real sick ones ...for example racist remarks etc etc BAN E'M for good.

I dont think yahoo would have the resources to do this though ....first of all its free , and I can see them wanting to pay wages for moderators and monitors

No, because it'll be boring without a bit of banter... Besides, the people who don't offer much are the ones who probably need to be on Yahoo Answers! cos they're bored to death and want to wind people up like you.. Chill out

No, because then none of the jews would ever get an opportunity to post anything! Although they may never offer anything of value they should have an outlet none the less much like your post!

While worthwile answers are very subjective, the driving force is marketing to the highest volume of people to increase the value of their advertising. Blocking the fewest number of people is what they should do from the perspective of good business for them.
