I had low blood sugar, now I am diabetic. I still have the feeling in my toes and feet (thank goodness) but, as you may have heard, injuries to the feet or legs of diabetic persons can lead to infections that can lead to amputations.
I also have a foot problem that requires me to wear shoes so my feet won't hurt, so I am almost always in slippers.
As low blood sugar and diabetes can result in greater than average clumsiness, the slippers prevent really hurt stubbed toes.
He is not wrong, but if you don't have any of these problems, and your floors are clean (no glass shards or spiders) then going barefoot now and again should not be risky.
Stinky feet are another problem - see yeast below.

I was always told not to walk around in bare feet too! I loved walking around in bare feet! One day i was helping my mom fix a salad for supper during the summer. I was standing on an area rug and felt a sharp pain in my foot. I looked down and didnt see anything wrong. About 10 minutes later, my foot had swollen like 3 times it normal size! Obviously I ended up at the hospital and when looking at the xrays you could plainly see a sewing needle sticking into my foot. You could see the eye of the needle! To make a long story short....3 operations later they finally removed the needle from my heal bone. Since then...I never walk bare foot! I think hubby doesnt want you to take a chance of steeping on something like I did!

When me & the other half first moved in together he spent months following me around with shoes and slippers. It achieved nothing and he finally gave up.
I love being barefoot. Nothing says 'I'm home and I'm comfy' more than being barefoot. The first thing I do when I get in every evening it take my shoes & socks off.
Yes I do wander round the garden barefoot as well.
Whenever anyone comments I give them the line 'How do you expect me to achieve anything if my feet aren't touching the ground?'
If I get a mental block at work I get barefoot under the desk, helps me think so much better.
Your husband loves you very much, he's just being over protective of your tootsies.

Your husband is not entirely wrong.
Wearing slippers particularly in the winter months is good for you so that you don't get a chill through your feet which is hard to get rid of.
In the summer months it is OK to go barefoot but make sure the floor is clean.
I wouldn't go outside barefoot even in summer because you don't know what diseases are in the ground.
I live in Australia and we tend to go barefoot most of the time but I still use caution.

some people were just brought up upper middle class or higher who always wear slippers, guys always have covered chests, neither guy nor gal wears shorts, women are covered up (nothing showing like belly or shoulders) and guys and gals both wear bath robes. So it could be his tradition.
But maybe he's had or known of a case of athletes foot or got a nail or pin in his foot and so because he remembers that and it caused pain to him he is just concerned for you.

I never wear slippers and have very healthy feet. It's good to let them be in their natural state without restrictions. I have never worn slippers and most people I know who do have smelly ones! Eww!

Some people just like to control everything. I go barefoot all the time and don't catch colds, worms or any of the horror stories that go around.

Better to get the dropped drawing-pin in your slippers than in your foot isn't it?

you do need to let your feet breathe during the day and to let them rest. If your hubby is telling you this it is most llikely out of love and he just wants you to make sure that you don't hurt your feet. I go barefoot at the end of the day and in the morning, but so does my hubby. I guess it is just a concern for your hubby.
