How long did it take before you got your first period after you had your baby?

With one of my deliveries, I did not start a period after that for six months. It can be longer if you are breastfeeding, as I was. Although I breastfed all my children, with one of my children I had a period within six weeks. It just depends. I have a theory that it can depend upon the labor and trauma at delivery, and whether a woman delivers by cesarean or vaginally.

I breastfeed my babies and never gave a bottle. I got my period back at 12 months with the first, 10 months with the second and 11 months with the third. Although, if you aren't nursing you could expect one back shortly after you stop bleeding from having the baby. You usually expect to stop bleeding from having the baby anywhere from 4-6 weeks after the baby is born and then you could start your period not long after that.
Hope this helps!

It's different with each woman and each birth. I breastfed all my children (pregnant with #4) and had a period anywhere from 4-6 months after the birth. So it just depends on the person. Also, breastfeeding is not a reliable source of birth control. It is best to use some sort of birth control while breastfeeding just in case.

I am breastfeeding and still got my first period about 8 weeks after the birth of my son. It really is different for everyone.

Because my children received their birthright, human milk on demand, I didn't get a period back for 18 months after each delivery.

Well, my baby was 5 months yesterday, and no period yet! But then, I'm exclusively breastfeeding when at home, and pumping while at work.
